About Jagged Horizon
Jagged Horizon perfectly describes an area to the east of Chachapoyas that Nick Fletcher and Rob Dover first hiked in 1997. It is an area of intense beauty and solitude – a harsh wilderness on the edge of the north eastern Andes. The rocky mountains reach up to 4000m, and between are lakes and bogs. Warm air rushes up from the Amazon plain just to the east and clouds quickly form changing the weather in minutes. That is why we love these mountains, and over various trips we have discovered more reasons to return.

Handsome Rob
Just a very simple post, mainly for Rob’s mum. A nice portrait of her son looking a bit like his dad. and another one I took a few weeks ago… just to show he’s not always photogenic!

After the Storm (in my belly)
The old blog has taken a snooze over the last few days. The plan was to eat eat eat and get my belly back. I eat one meal, and contract one of those horrible tummy bugs that I presume from the … Continue reading

Rob’s Return (the forgotten post)
The day Rob is due to return, I schedule myself some time off to do a bit of laundry. The basic idea is that if Rob does not come back then I will have had a recuperation day before the big push … Continue reading
We’re Back!
I’ll be incredibly brief as it’s midnight and we’ve been eating all day to replenish lost bellies. We both have beards for the first time ever. We both weigh the same as we did as teens. We didn’t kill each other … Continue reading

A Final Farewell (well hopefully not THAT final!)
Right, didnt even get a chance to finish the last posts, because at 3am we’re driving off (in about 6 hours) for The Big One. I’m convinced I’ve packed enough food for 2 months, but at least it’ll allow a longer than 3 week … Continue reading

White sand beaches
It’s a funny thing, exploring. It sounds all macho and adventurous. You lull yourself into a mild fantasy state where you think you are some kind of cool Indiana Jones (with gout, asthma and gangly uncoordinated limbs). And then you … Continue reading

Falling for History
We devise a simple process: Rob stands at a ruin with the GPS and I take a photo of him standing there looking like he’s calling his mum for a lift home. I shout out the photo number and he … Continue reading

Rob Hates Porridge
Rob and I tend to film the whole experience, not just the ‘grown-up’ stuff. But it’s all part of the Big Adventure!
THE FIRST LITTLE ADVENTURE- day 2
EMERGENCE Like butterflies, we emerge from our ripstop cocoon. The feint Sun peers at us reluctantly, and decides to let her evil cousins The Clouds lead the day. It rains. Well, at 3000 metres we’re effectively living in The Clouds … Continue reading

THE FIRST LITTLE EXPEDITION cont.
The Dark Thank heavens for technology or curse it? A few years ago in the days of rubbish head-torches and 1 hour batteries, we would have slept in a stable. (Yup that’s what we have done… Rob gets the manger). … Continue reading
